FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

What is lost-wax casting and why does Classic Art use it?

Lost-wax casting (cire perdue) is the oldest and most precise method for casting fine bronze sculpture. A wax model is invested in a ceramic shell, the wax is burned out, and molten bronze is poured into the void; transferring every detail of the sculptor's work into metal. Benvenuto Cellini documented the exact process in 1568; Classic Art's workshop in Bangkok uses the unchanged in principle since Cellini documented the tradition today.

What makes Classic Art Collection different from other bronze foundries?

Classic Art practices the a technique unchanged in principle since the tradition Cellini documented in 1568 and used by Ghiberti for the Florence Baptistery Doors. It is a reconstructed tradition; technique lost in Europe after antiquity and revived during the Renaissance. Classic Art has kept it alive in Bangkok since 1995.

How is the patina applied to Classic Art bronzes?

The patina is chemically produced through heat and reactive chemistry; not paint. Each piece is treated with specific chemicals under controlled heat, creating permanent surface oxidation. Sealed with natural wax for protection and depth.

What does "limited edition" mean for a Classic Art bronze?

Each edition is a defined number of castings. Every piece is individually numbered with a foundry certificate. When the edition is complete, the mould is retired. Collectors receive documentation confirming their exact edition number.
